Ready, set, go!

Ok, so the page most likely doesn’t look like as expected. pAk has messing around a bit with it and ended up messing it up big time! Pakette.org will look nicer in the future, we can assure you that.

Anyway, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls: we are already cycling in Newfoundland! The stopover in Dublin worked just fine and despite some bad looking boxes upon arrival, we managed to get our bikes in exactly the same amount of pieces as we checked them -and not one piece more!

However, a skewer from a front axle broke when pAk was assembling one of the bikes, which caused a slight delay, specially because Monday May 21st was a bank holiday in Newfoundland. So, after a couple of days in St John’s, and once we got hold of a new skewer, we visited our first campground: Pippy Park in St John’s outskirts. There we could have a final check at the bikes, the tent, sleeping bags and so on.

Since everything worked out just fine, we finally started cycling yesterday. We shortly started noticing the ride would be tough due to some strong wind gusts, like 29 km/h and never at our tail. We managed to get to Bay Bulls nonetheless, where a friendly lady at the Sapphire Pub allowed as to pitch our tent just at their backyard.

After a very rainy night, we set off to Holyrood this morning. Knowing the wind would also be tough and always against us, we decided for a short trip about 20 something kilometer to the next campground. Before leaving Bay Bulls, we had to stop for a coffee at a convenience store and -lucky us- we not only had one each but a mysterious admirer offered us a sandwich!

After a tough ride to Holyrood -to the tougher wind gusts some snow was added to the nice weather conditions we’re experiencing in Newfoundland!- we finally arrived at the Blue Fin campground. Our tent is already pitched and we even had time to do some laundry. And they even have a laptop at the receptions campers can use. So Pak could starting solving some things up and start the blog with the first post!

Thanks a lot in advance for checking on us! Some pictures will follow soon. But in the meantime you can have a look at our Facebook and Instagram as well as follow us on twitter, tumblr or even flickr (as long as it lasts after smugmug bought it).

’til next time! Big hugs from Tere and Pak.
